Research Interest: Protection and Utilization of Natural and Cultural Heritage in China(Specialization in World Heritage, Scenic Areas and National Parks)

With over 30 years of dedicated research in the field of natural and cultural protected areas,including World Heritage sites, scenic areas, and national parks I have led and participated in more than 60 diverse research projects. These include 3major scientific endeavors, such as the National Key Technologies R&D Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology and projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China.My work also encompasses the development of 13 master plans for national scenic areas, including Mt. Tai in Shandong, Dali in Yunnan, and Mt. Heng in the north, as well as 5 key studies on the value of World Heritage sites,such asthe Five Sacred Mountains of China and the Cultural Landscape of Old Tea Forests of the Jingmai Mountain in Pu’er. It also includes developing over 40 detailed plans for regional and urban planning and scenic areas such as Guilin in Guangxi and Luoyang in Henan.

In 2019, I served as a leading expert in the successful inscription of the Migratory Bird Sanctuaries along the Coast of Yellow Sea-Bohai Gulf of China (Phase I) as a World Heritage site, marking China’s first marine World Heritage designation.In 2023, as the chief expert on the nomination, I guided the successful inclusionof the Cultural Landscape of Old Tea Forests of Jingmai Mountain in Pu'er, Yunnan, in the World Cultural Heritage List, the world's first tea-themed World Heritage site.
